How is the test done?

An HIV test is simple and quick.

  • We do a finger prick and collect a few drops of blood on a test stick.
  • The blood is mixed with a chemical.
  • We wait 15 minutes for the result. In that time, you will be offered a counseling session in which you can talk about whatever is on your mind.

We are in contact with both Östra Hospital and Sahlgrenska. If you test positive, we can provide clear information on the steps involved and securely point you in the right direction, if that what you choose. Among other things, we offer the possibility of having a support person accompany you to a formal health facility. We also offer the possibility of peer-to-peer support via our own organisations, RFSL Göteborg och  Positiva Gruppen Väst.
