Why an HIV test?

Checkpoint Göteborg wants to give everyone the possibility to get tested. By knowing your HIV status, you can take care of your own as well as other´s health. The majority of people who contract HIV get it from a person who is unaware that they are positive. Testing is an effective way to reduce the transmission of HIV.

Today, HIV is 80 times more prevalent among men who have sex with men than in the population at large. By getting tested regularly, you can protect yourself and your partners.

Today’s treatment is very effective. If you test positive, you will promptly get access to treatment and medication. This will allow you to live a full life. Todays medicines can bring the virus down to undetectable levels.

Checkpoint Göteborg allows you to get tested anonymously and independently of the formal health services. You will get the result straight away. It simply suits som people better. We who work at Checkpoint Göteborg are LGBTQ persons. It is a community-based testing site, which makes it an important complement to the choice of testing facilities.

Why get tested for syphilis?

Syphilis is currently increasing in Sweden. Men who have sex with men are overrepresented in the statistics. Syphilis is treatable with antibiotics, but you must take a test to know if you
have it.

Whether you have HIV or not, it is good to get tested. HIV worsens the symptoms of syphilis.

You can be tested by us  12  weeks after exposure. However, this is provided you have not had a syphilis infection previously. If you have, the tests we provide will not give an accurate result. In such a case, it is better to get tested at the Venereology Clinic at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
